The Global Security Risk Monitor

The Global Security Risk Monitor (Monitor) is an impartial on-line investment research tool that identifies and profiles publicly-traded companies worldwide that have business ties to Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. While the Monitor is designed as a risk assessment tool, some investors employ the research as a "terror-free" screen and/or to inform corporate governance deliberations and shareholder resolutions.

The Monitor is a non-advocacy research tool, currently subscribed to by dozens of the worlds leading public pension systems, asset management firms, mutual fund providers and universities, as well as three agencies of the federal government. Among its features are:

  • Extensive profiles of over 800 companies that are active in U.S. State Department-designated terrorist-sponsoring states;
  • A "Company Tie" indicator that differentiates companies by the type of business tie each has to terrorist-sponsoring states;
  • Profiles of companies that have documented links to proliferation-related activities;
  • Revenue information regarding company transactions and projects in each country;
  • "Points of Interest" that alert the investor to matters including shareholder activism, lawsuits, negative publicity, government inquiries and company statements regarding such business ties;
  • "Company responses" that confirm and respond to the Monitor profile of each firm;
  • A CSAG Security Analysis designed to cue the investor to those companies that are "at risk" from exposure to global security risk considerations;
  • Extensive updates on a quarterly basis; and
  • Numerous user-friendly features to streamline the research process for investors.

The Monitor also provides profiles of publicly-traded companies that have been publicly cited for ties to proliferation-related concerns. These profiles include: an overview of the company's Links to Proliferation-Related Concerns, Citations of those public documents on which the overview is based; and a Company Response section that offers the company an opportunity to respond to its profile.

Also included in the Monitor are CSAG Security Overviews for the six countries covered. These summaries offer a synopsis for the user of each country's historical ties to terrorism and proliferation activities. CSAG Sectoral Analyses are also included for the five sectors identified as being security-sensitive (i.e., Telecommunications, Energy, Manufacturing, Power, Financial and Metals and Mining). Each provides a description of the global security risk dimensions of these sectors and past examples. Additionally, overviews of Terrorism and Proliferation are available to acquaint the user with these broader issue areas.
